Chapter 6 of I AM THAT GIRL by Alexis Jones is called “Be Resilient.” It’s about fighting back when the going gets tough and working for what it is you want even when you’re faced with obstacles. Being resilient in the face of adversity is important, because it allows you to be your true self even when you face times of trouble. Being yourself on your adventure is the only way that it will truly be a happy and healthy one. 🙂 ❤
Here are my highlighted quotes from this chapter:
“You may encounter may defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, and how you can still come out of it” (Maya Angelou, 175).
“Perseverance will take you a long, long way. It will make a great difference in your life–the difference between achieving your goals and just sitting back wishing things would change” (Shaun Robinson, 176).
“I learned resilience is not pretending you’re not upset, hurt, or disappointed; it is finding the courage to choose a positive attitude in spite of whatever storm you’re experiencing, it’s deciding if you’re going to focus on the pain and the hurt or cling to your faith that at some point, the sun will come out again” (180).
“Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle” (Christian D. Larson, 180).
“So rather than avoiding disappointment and the instability it causes in your life, stop what you’re doing and listen to what your pain has to tell you. If you don’t, you’re missing a terrific opportunity to make a choice or a change that can mean all the difference to your future” (181).
“Having a great attitude is the first step to becoming resilient because of the sheer power of your mind. By doing nothing more than thinking positively you can shed light onto a dark situation” (182).
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain” (Vivian Green, 185).
“We can’t control the outside world, what cards we’re dealt, the way people act, or any circumstances for that matter; the only thing we can control is who we choose to be in spite of them” (186).
“They (the most successful people) swallow their pride, brush off the embarrassment, get their head back in the game, and keep shooting. They know that one of these days they are going to score, and it’s the faith in believing what they haven’t seen that carries them” (191).
“The only thing you need to know is that you’re not going to give up no matter what. After that, bring on the challenge and trust that the girl on the other side of it is stronger, braver, and maybe even a little wiser” (192).
“Simply getting through your blunders and embarrassing moments builds your resilience. Being willing to embrace your flaws as much as you do your triumphs makes you unstoppable” (194).
“You need to make all the mistakes you have in order to grow and become the best version of you. You need to get back up each time and not lose faith or focus. Whatever it is you want in life, you’re only going to get it if you’re willing to fight” (196-197).
“The people who live life the best are the ones who get back up not the ones who avoid the obstacles, but the fearless ones seeking out the ultimate challenge that comes in the form of humility, forgiveness, acceptance, and resilience” (198).
