I hope you enjoy the quotes I’ve pulled from Chapters 2 and 3 of You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero! YAB is the acronym I’ll be using from this point onward when I’m talking about this book.
Chapter 2 is entitled: “The G Word.” In this case, the G word refers to God. The author writes that if you’re uncomfortable with the word or concept of God, that that’s okay and there are many others terms for God. She uses Source Energy instead; the quotes that I’m taking from the book will use Source Energy as a euphemism for God.
Chapter 3 is entitled: “Present As A Pigeon.” The pigeon she refers to is a common yoga pose, she links her struggle with the pose with how you can be more present in the current moment.
Here are my favorite quotes from both chapters:
“Whatever you choose to all it isn’t important, what is important is that you start to develop an awareness of, and a relationship with, the Source Energy that’s surrounding you and within you (which is all the same energy), and which will be your best pal ever if you give it a chance” (30).
I personally choose to call “it” God. I was raised Catholic and continue to practice my faith to this day. However, like Jen says, it doesn’t matter what you call “it.” She’s absolutely correct in saying that if you work on your relationship with God and recognize His presence in your life, you’ll absorb some of His energy, and you’ll realize the goodness of God.
“But if you get very clear on what you truly want (rather than what you think you should want), believe that it’s available to you regardless of your present circumstances by staying connected to Source Energy and keeping your frequency high, and take decisive action, you will eventually succeed” (33).
First, you have to figure out what your passion is and what you truly want out of life. If you’re still searching for it, that’s okay too. You can get what you want if you work for it, continue to connect and build your relationship with God, and believe that it will happen. You’ll succeed in some way, according to God’s plan, but you have to do all of these things.
“Even if it seems impossible, you have to have faith anyway, and the second you stop believing, you pop the bubble and stop attracting the magic in your life” (33).
This is what’s called taking a leap of faith, and you have to have some faith in order to get far, because just preparation and action won’t get you there.
“If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present” (Lao Tzu, 35).
Try to live in peace in the present, because that’s the best way to live.
“The more practiced you become at being present and connected to Source Energy, the more available you are to download ideas and seize opportunities that you might miss out on if you’re all wrapped up in the endless chatter in your head” (38).
We all get caught up in the thoughts that are circling inside our head. Jen wants us to get out of our own head (easier said than done) and to live in the present and connect with God. This way, you’ll live a more fulfilling life.
I hope you enjoyed these selected quotes and will put them into practice in your happy and healthy adventure. 🙂 ❤
