Chapter 21: “Millions Of Mirrors”
This chapter is about the people in our lives and how the people we surround ourselves with are very similar to us, in good and bad ways. We can learn a lot about OURSELVES just by observing what we like and dislike about our family, friends, classmates, co-workers, etc. We can take what we like about others (and in ourselves) and continue to grow and thrive in those areas; we can also learn what we don’t like so much about those same people (and in ourselves) and work on those areas. This is SO important for personal development reasons, and will only make your happy and healthy adventure that much better. 🙂 ❤
Here are my favorite quotes from the chapter:
“Your reality is created by what you focus on and how you choose to interpret it” (177).
If you focus on the good in your life and interpret it as good, then your life (reality) will be good. If you focus on the bad in your life but interpret a lesson from it, then you can grow. If you focus on the bad and interpret it as bad, then life won’t be so pretty. YOU CHOOSE what to focus on and how to view it; your attention and perspective is what creates your reality.
“The people you surround yourself with are excellent mirrors for who you are and how much, or how little, you love yourself” (177).
The list of people I surround myself with or keep a constant line of communication with is pretty closely aligned with my list of mentors. I surround myself with these people because they all work hard, motivate me to do my best, and make me feel good. They are excellent mirrors and I’m glad to have them in my life. Everyone should want to surround themselves with people who make great mirrors that allow you to LOVE YOU FOR YOU and help you to grow.
“Our reality is a mirror of our thoughts, the people in our reality included” (180).
Your life will reflect what goes on in your head and what people you surround yourself with. So always TRY to think positive thoughts and surround yourself with positive people.
“What you focus on you create more of in your life” (180).
If you focus on what you love about your job and like how you feel you are helping others and making a difference, you’ll continue to do all of those things. If you decide to focus on how you’re overweight, then you’ll continue to harbor negative thoughts about your appearance (just 2 examples that I thought were relatable).
“At the end of the day, it’s not about them, it’s about you believing you’re worthy of being loved and seen for who you really are” (181).
Honestly, just worry about YOURSELF (because that’s all you can really do) and know that YOU are WORTHY of LOVE and that you should be PROUD to be YOURSELF.
“It’s about respecting yourself, instead of catering to your insecure need to be liked. This is incredibly powerful, because when you love yourself enough to stand in your truth no matter what the cost, everyone benefits” (182).
Again, just worry about YOURSELF, LOVING yourself, and BEING NICE to yourself. Don’t worry about what others will think of you or if they’ll like you. Just LOVE YOURSELF and BE YOURSELF because that’s the only way the world will benefit from your existence.
“Never apologize for who you are. It lets the whole world down” (182).
You’re AWESOME and the world needs you JUST THE WAY YOU ARE.
I hope you enjoyed the selected quotes and are living out your happy, healthy adventure. 🙂 ❤
