Chapter 10: You Got to Dance With Them That Brung You
I’m going to let the quotes and my thoughts from the chapter speak for themselves and hopefully speak to you on your happy and healthy adventure. 🙂 ❤
“We can’t be brave in the big world without at least one small safe space to work through our fears and falls.”
The world is a big and scary place, so we have to find a safe haven to work on ourselves, especially when it comes to overcoming our fears and moving on past our falls. Whether this be through journaling, meditating, talking with a friend, etc., make sure to find that safe space to reflect upon and work with and through your challenges.
“Practice critical awareness by reality-checking the messages and expectations that tell us that being imperfect means being inadequate.”
It’s great to have ambition and big goals, but equally important is checking if those goals can fit within some sort of reality. It’s also good to be aware that your imperfections are a GOOD thing-they make you YOU and it does not mean that they make you unworthy.
“To embrace and love who we are, we have to reclaim and reconnect with the parts of ourselves we’ve orphaned over the years. We have to call back home all of those parts of ourselves that we have abandoned.”
You can’t just get rid of some part of yourself because you don’t like it. Anything you dislike about yourself never truly goes away, it just changes. But, we should accept that everything about us makes us WHO WE ARE and that we should acknowledge and embrace all of our attributes, even if we have abandoned them.
“In the rising strong process, looking back is done in the service of moving forward with an integrated and whole heart.”
In order to be strong and conquer, it’s important to look back on your life-but with the right mindset.
“To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.” -Aristotle
Sounds like a pretty boring “life” to me.
“When we stop caring what people think, we lose our capacity for connection. But when we are defined by what people think, we lose the courage to be vulnerable.”
You have to find the balance so you can live your best life.
“I came to love who I am and where I’m from. Yes, some of it is hard and broken and rough around the edges, but much of it is beautiful and strong. Most important all of it made me who I am.”
It’s important to LOVE YOURSELF. Even the flaws and the failures. No, you don’t have to come to terms with everything (especially the not so good) about yourself RIGHT NOW, but you will need to, at some point, embrace every moment of your life and realized that they impacted you and made you your awesome, lovable self.
“Our identities are always changing and growing, they’re not meant to be pinned down. Our histories are never all good or all bad, and running from the past is the surest way to be defined by it. That’s when it owns us. They key is bringing the light to the darkness-developing awareness and understanding.”
Don’t let yourself be stuck in your identity. We’re meant to grow each day and change for the better. That’s why PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT is a thing. Yes, you’ll have to grapple with your past, but live in the present. But know that you’ll always continue to grow in your awareness and understanding of others and yourself.
“We can’t be “all in” if only parts of us show up. If we’re not living, loving, parenting, or leading with our whole, integrated hearts, we’re doing it halfheartedly.”
Live life to the fullest and give it your all, because that’s the only good way to live.
“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” -Carl Jung
Remember, love yourself, believe in yourself, dream big, and live your life awakened. 🙂 ❤
