Chapter 3: “There’s a Lady at the Gym Who Hates Me”
Chapter 3 is an anecdote from Lysa’s life about a woman she encounters at the gym and what her perception of this woman’s actions are and how they affect her. There’s also this big concept of “living loved” that she introduces in this chapter.
“Because it’s hard to live something you sometimes don’t feel. It’s easy to live loved when I feel loved. But some days I’m just not feeling it” (31).
When you feel loved, you feel wonderful. But when you don’t, it’s hard to find love in your heart and live out the love inside of you. You might have to dig deep to find love, especially on those not so great days, but it’s worth it.
“I love the thought that God is in our midst and that He will quiet me by His love” (31).
This is one of Lysa’s thoughts on Zephaniah 3:13 ESV. God is always with us and can quiet our busy, stressful minds with His love if we allow Him to.
“Giving with strings of secret expectations attached is the greatest invitation to heartbreak” (34).
It’s wonderful to give to others, but you have to have good, truthful intentions in order to benefit from your generosity.
“Living loved is sourced in your quiet daily surrender to the One who made you” (34).
You can only live loved if you truly belief and relish in God’s love for you.
“But if we will remember to return often to our Instructor…our Creator…we will discover His loving hands still pulse to continue making us. Tweaking us. Molding us. Filling us. And daily completing the good work He began in us” (34).
We should acknowledge God’s presence every day and recognize that He is always working to make us the best version of ourselves and that He wants us to live loved.
“We run at a breakneck pace to try and achieve what God simply wants us to slow down enough to receive” (36).
We live in a world where everything goes so fast; that’s why it’s called the “rat race.” But God wants us to slow down sometimes and see what He is trying to provide us.
“We just have to turn to Him. And sit with Him. No matter what” (36).
Whether you’re on cloud nine or are having the worst day ever, turn to God. Sit with God and think about God and what He is doing for you.
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]” (Psalm 91:1 AMPC, 39).
“When we abide, delight, and dwell in Him, He then places within us desires that line up with His best desire for us” (39).
If you let God be a part of all aspects of your life and fill yourself with His love, everything will align according to His plan for you.
