Chapter 4: “Alone in a Crowded Room”
Chapter 4 is about the concept that you can feel completely alone and helpless even in a room that’s packed with people. She unpacks this concept and the feels associated with it, and how God can come into play when we find ourselves in this situation.
“We must respect ourselves enough to break the pattern of placing unrealistic expectations on others. After all, people will not respect us more than we respect ourselves” (45).
Respect is a two way street, but respect for yourself and others begins with respecting yourself and placing expectations on yourself before even thinking about others.
“Do I walk into situations prepared with the fullness of God in me, free to look for ways to bless others?” (45).
It’s important to ask yourself this question when walking into or encountering any situation. I know I need to do this more, because it will allow me to live loved and live fully.
“But living loved isn’t just their mind-set; it is a choice they make daily. It isn’t just a possible thing they should try. It’s the only solution that actually works. We have to tell our minds to live loved” (46).
People that are prepared with the fullness of God (their) make a conscious choice to live loved in every situation every day. It’s the only good choice to make because it’s really the only way to live a full and wonderful life. But we also have to think of living loved in order to do it.
“Being full of God’s love settles, empowers, and brings out the best of who we are” (46).
God’s love makes us the best version of ourselves that we can be and allows us to conquer fear and do great things in the world.
“If we grasp the full love of Christ, we won’t grab at other things to fill us. Or if we do, we’ll sense it” (47).
It’s important to focus on God’s love for us and allow it to fill us because it has so much power to make each of us great human beings. Don’t bother filling yourself with anything other than God’s love.
“When we have Christ, we are full–fully loved and accepted and empowered to say no” (49).
If you have faith in Christ and believe in His love for you, you don’t need anything else.
“If we live rooted and established in His love, we don’t just have knowledge of His love in our minds, but it becomes a reality that anchors us” (49).
Let God’s love for you be your reality that guides you on your path that He has in mind for you.
